Grilled Asparagus & Serrano Ham

When I start dating someone I will typically cook for them pretty early on as I find it a great way to judge them:

Do they offer to help?
Do they just sit there and do nothing?
Do they try to taste-test everything?
Do they think they know better than me?
Do they ensure my wine glass remains full at all times?

You know, the important things*.

Also, I always cook one of three dishes – Chicken & Chorizo Paella, Chorizo and Red Wine Gnocchi, or Beef Biriyani. Which one I cook depends on how much I like the person.

To my point, last night I had a young man over for dinner** and made paella, and as a side dish decided to do this. It’s quick, easy, and even more important it’s fucking delicious.

*One guy decided it was ok to go have a nap whilst I was cooking... He obviously didn't end up staying for dinner.
**No, he didn't pass judgement - be brought Riesling. I hate Riesling.

Mustard Crusted Roast Potatoes

Yes, I know, two potato recipes in a row.

Deal with it.

Dealt with?

Right, let’s go.

Tattie Scones (gluten free)

The Full Scottish Breakfast is by far superior to its southern counterpart, the Full English Breakfast, as it features not only Haggis (which is delicious) but Tattie Scones! I could easily eat tattie scones til the coos come home, and they’re super cheap to buy, however, they contain gluten and it’s fun to cook from scratch (and I had some potatoes in the pantry, so two birds etc).

So, it’s the day after Hogmanay, I’m hanging from too much red wine, countless vodkas, and who knows how many tequila shots, and what better way to bring in the new year than a massive breakfast to reassure my liver I won’t be drinking like that again… until next weekend.

Anyway, just go to the recipe and get cooking already you lot.

How To Make Mulled Wine

I promised a mulled wine recipe and I hate to break a promise.

I have loved mulled wine since as a teenager my father first perfect a recipe which I absolutely adored. Of course, being a teen at the time I adored all alcohol, but that’s beside the point.

Anyway, given this is my first Christmas in the northern hemisphere, in Scotland no less, what better to share with you tonight than my own mulled wine recipe which is little short of perfect.

Remember, as you are adding flavours for the wine it’s not vitally important that you have an amazing wine to work with, but don’t buy goon or boxed wine. If you do, you will have to play around with the sugar and/or acidity levels to cut through whatever abomination of booze you’ve bought for this purpose.

Good Bye London, Hello Glasgow!

Turns out London is not my cup of tea. The last 11 months of my life have literally been the worst and I will be thoroughly glad when this year is over.

So, given the past 11 months in London were completely boggins, I’ve moved to Scotland which has always been my end game. I have a bigger kitchen now than at any of the places I lived in London, and given the deliciously colder weather, there's a lot of comfort food to be made and enjoyed.

My first recipe will probably be Mulled Wine, FYI.

All of that aside, I’m slowly updating the format and feel  of the blog, and once that is complete will be regularly updating with recipes again. There will also be a shift in tone of the blog to better represent my true personality because I think the few people that read this blog can handle it.

Stay tuned…
